The Tulip and the Pope: A Nun's Story
by OLP grad, Deborah Larsen (Class of 1959) comes
highly recommended by Cindy Pratt Woods (class of
1970). Larsen entered the order of the Sisters of
Charity BVM in 1960, when she was 19 years old. The
Washington Post called her book an "evocative and
intelligent memoir of the years she spent in the
convent." You can purchase the book at
www.amazon.com.
Mary Treacy O'Keefe (class of 1970) was
inspired to write
Thin Places: Where
Faith is Affirmed and Hope Dwells
after
the back-to-back deaths of her parents. It
can be ordered off her website at
www.marytreacyokeefe.com. Mary says
"the book seems to be particularly
helpful and comforting to anyone who is
losing or has lost a loved one." She also
co-founded and is Executive Director of
Well Within, a holistic wellness resource
center in West St. Paul. Well Within is
dedicated to helping people who live
with serious illnesses.

Hello Everyone,

I want you to know that I have turned everything over to the new team, Mary
Maas and Pat Hartshorn, who will be planning the 2009 Candlelighting. We
met for lunch and I passed on the photos, guest book, costumes and phone
numbers along with lots of friendly advice.

We talked about potential dates for 2009, possibly Saturday afternoon
December 12th. It has to be cleared with William Mitchell first.

I will continue with e-mails and updating addresses as well as being treasurer.
Pam Bailey will continue with the website. Ann Bettenburg will be in charge of
the readers and Pauline Zibley wants to do the program again. Marian Wolters
will collect the cash, and I know there are others of you who have tasks that they
will continue doing.

Lots of things have been established so it is with pride that I pass this on. I
think we did a lot of things well, but new energy can only improve the tradition
that we started.

The financial picture looks good.  While charging the $5/pp this year we
deposited $414!  The caterer was $161 and I have set aside money for the
Website which is $12.95/month.  I am happy to report that I sent the Sisters of
Charity a $100 check in the name of the OLP Alumnae Association.

Thank you everyone for your contributions.

              Warmly,
Joni Dreelan Mitchell (Class of 1970)
